We are leaving tomorrow to travel several states away to visit family and friends. One of the things I hope to do is to go to the book store where I worked for three enjoyable years before we moved to North Carolina. A favorite aspect of the job for me was choosing high quality children’s books with a spiritual theme(not religious necessarily, but full of light).
I have been going back through those book lists in my mind in thinking of what to read with my little girl. I thought I’d share with three of my favorites with you all and perhaps you will enjoy them as much as I have and share some of your favorites with me!
Leave a comment for me and one of you will receive a copy of one of these lovely books.
This book by Bob Graham, is so tender. It has few words, and its message of a child reaching out to a fellow-creature in compassion is so beautiful. A truly unique and timeless story.
The author of Psalms for Young Children does a wonderful job condensing the psalms into a “just right” amount of text for 3-7 year olds. The illustrations are so soothing. It is published by one of my favorite publishers of religious children’s books, Eerdman’s.
This book is perfect for introducing centering prayer to ages 3-10, but certainly appealing for all ages. The water-color illustrations are gorgeous and the text is so inviting, it makes me want to drop everything and pray. This has been a favorite of mine for several years and as far as I know it is one of a kind in the religious book market.
I look forward to reading your comments when I return and sending one of you wonderful people a book.
This trip will be good in many aspects, and difficult in others. I have received some horribly sad news from a good friend this week, so please keep her in your prayers.
This summer, as you know, has been one of facing tough things for me. I am at work on a post about some of what I have learned. It will likely be a 2 or three-part series and I will be asking for a lot of interaction from you, dear readers. Just to get your interest engaged, the theme will be resilience.
Friends, I cannot tell you how much connecting with you in this space means to me.
Love and peace to all of you during the coming days,
Emmie
